Which Swift Car Cover Fits Your Model Year? 2011–2017 vs 2018–2023 vs 2024–2026

If you are buying a fitted cover for a Maruti Suzuki Swift, the first thing to settle is which generation you own. How to check your Swift's manufacturing year

The number you need is the manufacturing year, not the year you bought the car and not necessarily the year on the number plate. Three places to find it:

• Your RC (Registration Certificate). Indian RCs carry a manufacturing month and year field separately from the date of registration. This is the authoritative answer.
• The VIN plate. Usually on the driver-side B-pillar or under the bonnet, it carries the manufacturing date.
• The Parivahan portal or mParivahan app. Entering your registration number returns the vehicle details on record.

When the registration year and manufacturing year differ

This is common and it trips people up. A car built in December 2017 may well have been registered in January or February 2018 — dealer stock at year-end is often registered in the new year.

Go by the manufacturing year, not the registration year. The body shape was fixed when the car was built. A Swift manufactured in late 2017 and registered in 2018 belongs in the 2011–2017 range, not the 2018–2023 one.

Universal fit versus model-specific fit

A universal cover is made to one broad size and pulled over whatever it lands on. It is cheaper, and it will keep dust and rain off a car.

What it does not do is sit tight. Loose fabric moves in wind, and fabric that moves against paint repeatedly is not doing the paint any favours. It also tends to ride up at the bottom, which leaves more of the car exposed than the owner expects.

A model-specific cover is cut for one body shape, so it sits closer and stays put. That is the trade-off in plain terms: less flexibility, better fit. Neither is wrong — it depends on whether the car is parked outdoors regularly or covered occasionally in a garage.

A Swift parked on the street or in open society parking takes monsoon rain, summer sun, construction dust and bird droppings continuously rather than occasionally. None of it is dramatic on any single day, which is exactly why it goes unnoticed until the paint looks tired.
